Email Verification
What each check does, what the three verdicts mean, verifying lists and uploads, downloading results, and where AI helps.
Email verification checks addresses before you send to them. It runs on its own for every import and every new contact, and you can run it on demand from Deliverability → Email Verification. A verification never sends a message to the address.
What Is Checked
| Check | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Address Format | Addresses that are not a well-formed mailbox address are marked invalid. |
| Mail Server | Looks up the domain's MX records, falls back to its A or AAAA address when it publishes none, and marks a domain invalid when it has no mail server or declares that it accepts no mail (null MX). |
| Disposable Domains | Checks the domain against more than 120,000 known throwaway-inbox domains. |
| Role Addresses | Shared inboxes such as info@ and sales@ are marked risky, because they rarely reach one person. |
| Typo Suggestions | Common misspellings of major mail domains are marked risky, with the corrected address suggested. |
| Free-Mail Flag | Addresses at consumer mail providers are flagged for you to see; the flag never changes the verdict. |
| Mail Host | Reports the mail server each domain uses, and whether it is hosted by Google or Microsoft. |
Verdicts
Every address gets one verdict and one reason. Valid addresses stay in your campaigns. Risky and invalid contacts are held: they are left out of every campaign unless you opt them back in on the campaign's Audience tab, and a held contact's queued messages are cancelled. A free-mail flag is shown for your information and never changes the verdict.
Verify An Address, A List Or A File
- One address — type it into Verify an address. A likely typo comes back with a suggested correction you can verify in one click.
- Contacts — pick a list, a segment, or every contact not yet verified, or select contacts on the Contacts page and choose Verify. Results are written onto each contact.
- A CSV file — upload it, confirm the email column, and start. Duplicate addresses are skipped. Uploaded files are not added to your contacts and are deleted after 30 days.
- Before launch — the campaign's Review & launch tab shows how many recipients are not yet verified, with Verify now.
Results And Downloads
Recent verifications show progress as addresses are checked. When a run finishes, View results filters by verdict, and Download exports all results or only valid, valid and risky, risky or invalid addresses. A downloaded upload keeps your original columns and adds the verdict, reason, suggested correction, mail server and flags.
Where AI Helps
AI never decides a verdict — those come only from the checks above. It assists in three places, and only when you ask: Summarize with AI explains a finished run in plain English from its totals; Find typo fixes with AI proposes corrections for addresses whose domain has no mail server, and a suggestion is kept only if the corrected domain has a mail server in DNS; and Suggest with AI picks the email column of a messy CSV from its headers and value shapes, for you to confirm. Addresses themselves are not sent for the summary or the column suggestion.
