How it works
How The Reply Rate Is Worked Out
Replies are divided by the emails or prospects that could have replied, and the plan uses your own rate, nothing else.
- 01
Pick Email Or Prospect
Per email for a single send, per prospect for a sequence where each person gets several emails.
- 02
Enter The Counts
Sent, bounced and replies. Leave out auto-replies and bounce notices.
- 03
Add Positive Replies
Optional. Your own count of interested replies gives a positive reply rate and share.
- 04
Plan A Goal
Enter the replies you want and see how many emails or prospects that takes at your rate.
The formula
Reply Rate Formula
Reply rate = replies ÷ delivered emails × 100, where delivered emails = emails sent − bounced emails. Example: 2,000 sent, 60 bounced and 58 replies give 58 ÷ 1,940 = 2.99%.
Per prospect, the same formula counts people instead of emails: prospects who replied at least once ÷ prospects reached. A four-step sequence sends roughly four emails per prospect, so the two rates are not comparable.

What The AI Does
When you ask, SpirenAI, SendCanyon's AI, explains your reply rate, the counting basis you chose and your reply plan, and suggests what to check next. It sees only the calculated figures and notes, and drops any sentence with a number it was not given.
- Runs only when you ask for it
- Respects per-email or per-prospect
- Drops numbers it was not given
- Never quotes averages or benchmarks
Cold Email Reply Rate Questions
Counting replies, comparing rates, and planning how many emails a goal takes.
Divide replies by delivered emails, which are emails sent minus bounces, and multiply by 100. For example, 2,000 sent, 60 bounced and 58 replies give 58 ÷ 1,940 = 2.99%. Leave out auto-replies and bounce notices, since a person did not write them. SendCanyon reports replies divided by emails sent, which the calculator shows too.
