How the score works
One Number You Can Act On
Every email starts at 100. Each failed check takes off the most points, a warning takes off fewer, and a passed check costs nothing. The spam filter score is folded in, so a message the filter would flag cannot grade better than Fair however clean the rest of it looks.
90 and above is Excellent, 75 and above is Good, 50 and above is Fair, and anything lower is Poor. An email is ready to send when nothing fails and its spam filter score is under the threshold. Fix the failed checks first: they cost the most, and they are usually what a filter notices.
Six Habits Of Emails That Read Well To Filters
- 01Write It Like A Note, Not A FlyerShort paragraphs, plain words and one clear ask. Heavy formatting, big images and several buttons read as marketing mail, and filters treat them that way.
- 02Keep Links Few And HonestOne or two links to your own domain is plenty. Link shorteners, bare IP addresses and link text that hides where it goes are classic phishing signals.
- 03Drop The Pressure WordsPhrases like “act now”, “100% free” or “risk-free” are what spam filters were trained on. Say what you offer in specific, ordinary language instead.
- 04Send From A Real Person On Your Own DomainA named sender on an authenticated domain gets more replies and fewer complaints than a no-reply, role or free-mail address.
- 05Check The Merge FieldsA {{first_name}} that never fills, or broken spintax, tells the recipient it was a template. Test with the fields your contacts actually have.
- 06Give People A Way OutA simple opt-out line keeps complaints down, and complaints hurt your domain far more than an unsubscribe ever will.
