Your Own Servers And Other Includes
Your SPF Record
- Type
- TXT
- Host
- your domain
- TTL
- 3600
v=spf1 ~all
Look up your domain to count DNS lookups for this record.
How it works
One Record, Checked Before You Publish It
Three steps, and nothing you already publish gets dropped.
- 01
Look Up Your Domain
We read the SPF record your domain publishes now and the mail servers in its MX records, and count every DNS lookup it needs.
- 02
Add Who Sends For You
Pick the services that send as you. Each one is checked against its own documentation, and services that need no entry on your domain add nothing.
- 03
Publish And Re-Check
Copy the single TXT record to your domain, replacing the old one, then look it up again to confirm receivers see what you published.
What we check
Every Rule A Receiver Applies
Each check follows RFC 7208, the standard every receiving server uses to read SPF.
Lookup Limits
Receivers stop after 10 DNS lookups and after more than two empty ones.
- Every nested include counted
- Empty lookups counted
- Mail servers per mx counted
Record Structure
One syntax error or a second record breaks SPF for all of your mail.
- One record per domain
- Terms after all
- Redirects and duplicates
- Strings over 255 characters
Every Include
An include that points nowhere fails the whole record, so each one is resolved.
- Includes with no SPF record
- Includes with two records
- Loops
- DNS that does not answer
Risky Choices
Some terms are valid but weaken the record or slow every check down.
- +all and ?all
- ptr
- Private addresses
- Very wide ranges

Plain-English Answers, Checked By The Engine
The SPF engine decides every result. SpirenAI, SendCanyon's AI, only explains what the engine found, and anything it suggests is checked again before it is shown.
- Explains your current record and each warning in plain words
- Matches the services you describe to providers from our verified list
- Drafts a fixed record that our parser and lookup counter must accept
- Shows nothing it cannot back with the engine's own result
SPF Record Questions
What SPF does, how to publish one record, and how to stay within the lookup limit.
An SPF record is a TXT record on your domain that lists the servers allowed to send email using that domain in the envelope sender, also called the return-path. A receiving server compares the connecting IP address with that list and gets a result such as pass, fail or softfail. SPF checks the return-path, not the From address people see, which is why it works together with DKIM and DMARC.
SPF Is One Of Three Records.
SendCanyon checks SPF, DKIM and DMARC on every sending domain before a campaign leaves, and re-checks them every six hours.
