SendCanyon

Email Bounce Rate Calculator.

Enter emails sent and bounced, or hard and soft bounces separately, to get your bounce and delivery rates.

AI-powered. Explains your bounce, hard bounce and delivery rates and suggests next steps, using only the figures the calculator worked out.

How it works

How The Bounce Rate Is Worked Out

Bounces are divided by emails sent, and the split between hard and soft bounces is checked against the total.

  1. 01

    Enter Emails Sent

Every email you tried to send in the campaign or period.

  2. 02

    Enter The Bounces

The total, or hard and soft bounces separately. With both, they must add up.

  3. 03

    Read The Rates

Bounce rate, hard and soft bounce rates and delivery rate, each with its division shown.

  4. 04

    Know The Rules

Mailbox providers publish no bounce limit, so the calculator shows the account rule Amazon SES uses for hard bounces.

The formula

Bounce Rate Formula

Bounce rate = bounced emails ÷ emails sent × 100. Example: 45 bounces from 1,500 emails sent is 3.00%. Delivery rate = (emails sent − bounced emails) ÷ emails sent × 100, here 97.00%.

A hard bounce is a permanent failure, such as an address that does not exist. A soft bounce is temporary, such as a full mailbox or a server that is down. Delivered means the receiving server accepted the email; it says nothing about whether it reached the inbox.

AI-powered

What The AI Does

When you ask, SpirenAI, SendCanyon's AI, explains what your bounce rates mean and where to look first. It sees only the calculated rates and notes, and drops any sentence with a number the calculator did not produce.

  • Runs only when you ask for it
  • Explains hard and soft bounces
  • Drops numbers it was not given
  • Never quotes averages or benchmarks

Email Bounce Rate Questions

Hard and soft bounces, what counts, and the rules that apply to your sending.

Divide bounced emails by emails sent and multiply by 100. For example, 45 bounces from 1,500 emails sent is 3.00%. Bounce rate uses emails sent as its base, because a bounced email was by definition never delivered. Count bounced emails, not bounce notices: an email that bounced softly twice and then arrived did not bounce.

Catch Bad Addresses Before They Bounce.

SendCanyon checks every contact on import, holds risky addresses back and stops sending to any address that hard bounces.
